Tourism Sector Profile

PricewaterhouseCoopers

The tourism market in Qatar is expected to grow significantly in the next 10 years (forecasts of some key indicators are shown in the table below). This growth will be both in business related tourism (i.e. MICE – meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) and in leisure tourism. The leisure tourism sector may offer the greatest opportunities for SME’s as it has been relatively underdeveloped to date. With the efforts to diversify the economy as part of Qatar National Vision 2030 and major developments such as the award to Qatar of the right to stage FIFA World Cup 2022 the high-end culture, education and sports tourism markets in Qatar will grow considerably meaning that there will be scope for the formation of many new SMEs operating in niche tourism markets or offering specialist services of interest to particular types of tourists.
