Tax Registration in Qatar

PricewaterhouseCoopers

All taxpayers who carry on an activity or derive a taxable income from Qatar are required to register with the Public Revenue and Taxes Department (“PRTD”) and apply for a tax card within 30 days of the earlier of obtaining the commercial registration, the beginning of the activity or first day of realisation of income.

A penalty of QR 5,000 applies for the failure to comply with this requirement.

A tax card is usually issued to a taxpayer that is either resident or has a permanent establishment in Qatar. The possession of a tax card, therefore, should generally allow the taxpayer to receive payments free of withholding tax. Useful guidance on when withholding tax applies is provided here. [add link to WHT tree diagram in “Tax Information for an Existing Business” section]. The application form to be used to apply for a tax card is: Form No 1 Registration
